REMOTE IMAGING · STARFRONT OBSERVATORIES, TEXAS

Your deep-sky image, captured on a professional remote telescope

Pick a galaxy or nebula. Jodi's telescope under dark West Texas skies collects the data over as many clear nights as it takes. Watch it come in live, then receive a finished image or the raw files to process yourself.

How it works

  1. 1

Choose a target and a package

Pick from this month's menu of well-placed targets. Choose RGB for galaxies and star clusters, or HOO for emission nebulae. Decide how many hours of data you want.

  2. 2

    We image it, you watch

Your target joins the telescope's schedule. On clear nights you can open the live view: the stack building up, the filter in use, how the guiding is doing.

  3. 3

    Receive your image

Only subs that pass quality grading count toward your hours. When the package is complete, download a finished image or the calibrated raw data.

Packages

You buy a finished target, not telescope time. A package is complete when it has the promised hours of keeper subs, however many nights that takes. Clouds never count against you.

Hours of keeper subsRaw dataProcessed image
5 hrs$25$37.50
10 hrs$50$75
20 hrs$100$150

Processed image

Calibrated, stacked and finished by Jodi. Ready to print or share. The default choice.

Raw data

The calibrated subs, delivered by download, for you to stack and process your own way.

On the menu this month

Jodi curates the list each month to what is well placed and fits the telescope's field of view.

  • M33 Triangulum Galaxy

    RGB

A face-on spiral galaxy, bright enough to show its arms and star-forming regions in RGB.

  • NGC 281 Pacman Nebula

    HOO

A bright emission nebula in Cassiopeia with dark dust lanes cutting through its glowing hydrogen. Compact and well framed on the RedCat.

  • NGC 7822 and Ced 214

    HOO

A sprawling star-forming region in Cepheus with pillars and rims that light up beautifully in hydrogen and oxygen.

  • NGC 7380 Wizard Nebula

    HOO

An open cluster wrapped in nebulosity shaped, with some imagination, like a wizard in a cloak.

  • M45 Pleiades

    RGB

The Seven Sisters: hot blue stars lighting up the dust they are passing through. A classic RGB target that fills the frame.

  • NGC 869 and 884 Double Cluster

    RGB

Two rich open clusters side by side in Perseus, thousands of stars in one field. Fast and rewarding in RGB.

The telescopes

One telescope is taking packages now. The others are reserved and will open up later.

  • Only subs that pass quality grading count toward your hours.
  • If a target's season ends before your package is complete, you choose: finish next season, or a credit toward another target.
